20 Verses About Patience (KJV)
Here are 20 bible verses about patience in hard times and various life situations which will help you wait upon the Lord even when others give up.
1. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31.
The above scripture is one of my all-time favorite verses about patience which promises that those who patiently wait on the Lord will indeed renew their strength.
Very often in life, we find ourselves overwhelmed with life challenges and weak with little to no strength to continue the good fight set before us.
But the Lord has promised those who patently wait upon him will fly like might eagle with rewed strength ready to overcome any life’s challenge which comes their way.
You will indeed not faint and be weary if the Lord is on your side. So, don’t lose heart and wait upon the Lord and he will renew your strength in due time.
2. With all lowliness and meekness with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love. Ephesians 4:2.
Patience produces meekness and longsuffering which is patiently enduring hard times without losing heart or becoming weary.
We should also forbear one another in godly love. Yes, forbearing another person can be very difficult sometimes if that person isn’t willing to change his/her bad annoying behavior towards you.
But always remember that the Lord also loves you and forbears with you despite your imperfections and offenses you commit against him countless of times either knowingly or unknowingly.
If God was impatient and didn’t forbear with you, I don’t think you will be alive right noa you are reading this. It’s by his love and longsuffering towards you that you are alive today.
3. And let us not be weary in well-doing. For in due season, we shall reap if we faint not. Galatians 6:9.
This bible verse on patience encourages us not to be weary or discouraged with what we are doing or sowing even if we cannot see immediate results.
Reason being, we are promised that we will reap and have a bumper harvest for the fruit of our labors and toils in due season.
Remember, those that sow in tears now will reap in joy in the Lord in due season when all is said and done with their earthly lives if they don’t give up or faint.
4. Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say on the Lord. Psalms 27:14.
Similar to the bible verses about patience earlier discussed in this article at the beginning, this scripture on patience encourages us to wait upon the Lord.
If you wait on the Lord, he will strengthen your heart. No matter what you are currently going through in your life, be of good courage and eagerly wait on the Lord to visit you.
When you do so, you will indeed start seeing things to change for the better in your life and always remember that when the Lord intervenes in your life, things can never be the same. So, hang in there and don’t lose heart.
5. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some may count slackness but is longsuffering to us not willing any should perish but all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3: 9.
Indeed, the Lord is not slack when it comes to fulfilling his promises no matter how long it takes for those promises to come to pass.
Most people give up on the Lord when things take too long to materialize in their lives but always remember that the Lord is the most patient and longsuffering person in this universe.
He is patient because he doesn’t want anyone to perish eternally in the lake of fire but all should come to repentance and have eternal life.

6. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry their wicked schemes. Psalms 37:7.
We should not be wary of those who use short cuts or wicked dubious means to achieve their success or get their wealth.
Very often, as Christians, we become obsessed with people who achieve their success so quickly using dubious means.
But the psalmist reminds us that we must always wait patiently on the Lord and not to worry about people who are using crookedness to get their wealth.
After all, wealth obtained through dubious means won’t last long and doesn’t bring happiness at all to the individual concerned.
On the other hand, wealth which comes from the Lord comes with joy and contentment which has no sorrow attached to it.
7. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth, not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5.
The above verse is one of the best bible verses about patience and love which clearly states the true characteristics of true love.
Genuine love is always patient, long-suffering and doesn’t seek self. Love found in the bible is very different from the false love found in this world which solely based on self.
This verse is for you if you are in a relationship. If the person you are in a relationship with claims to love you, always use that scripture for verification and reference on true love characteristics.

8. He that is slow to wrath is of good understanding but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. Proverbs 14:29.
Patient people are usually slow to anger and are of good understanding and wisdom. Those who are impatient or hasty in spirit manifest and exalt foolishness in their impatience.
If you want to be slow to anger and be a person of good understanding in all situations, learn to be patient especially with your anger or temper.
Don’t be too hasty with anger but be slow to anger. Know I know that isn’t easy by any means but the scripture above should be of great help if you have anger problems.
9. Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer. Romans 12:12.
Another excellent bible verse about patience telling us that we must rejoice and be patient and long-suffering during tribulations we face in life.
Instead of complaining, you can always pray which must be consistent. If you do so, you will count it all joy in the Lord when you face had times in your life.
Unlike most people who complain and throw in the towel when things get hard, rejoice in the Lord as he is your sufficiency well able to deliver you from all the trials you are going through.
10. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. Psalms 103:8.
The bible verse above is one of my best bible verses about patience which shows and highlights the goodness of the Lord that no man can match.
Indeed, the Lord is good and always gracious to us due to the abundance of his patience and mercy he has towards us.
Just imagine if God was impatient and quick to anger especially in this current church age we live in, indeed no one would survive and this world will be virtually empty with our imperfect and sinful nature we are all born with.
From the example the Lord gives us about his nature and attributes, we too must patient and gracious to everyone just as the Lord is patient with us.
11. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Ecclesiastes 7:8.
The end of something is better than the beginning of something. In short, it’s not important how you start but how you finish is what counts.
Most people start very well but finish poorly in their hastiness. Also, those who are patient in spirit are better than the impatient and haughty in spirit.
As you know where there is pride and haughtiness destruction is knocking at the door and are eventually humbled.
But those who are patient and humble in spirit are highly exalted by the Lord in due season. Therefore, refrain from all forms of pride and impatience if you want God to lift you up.
12. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. James 1:19.
This is one of the best bible passages about patience specifically targeted to people who are hasty with their moths to speak with no breaks on them.
That scripture above is a wakeup call for all those people who are impatient with their moths and just say things which randomly come to their minds without thinking.
You shouldn’t be talkative like radios. Instead, you must be quick and patiently to listen to what the other party has to say before chiming in with your ignorance or folly.
As they say, “think before you talk.” We must be slow to utter anything with our mouths but quick to hear and slow to anger. Being short-tempered just causes you blood pressure over time and is not worth it.
13. You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people because you have not kept the LORD’s command.1 Samuel 13:13-14.
When it comes to hasty and impatient people who lost the best things the Lord had for them, it has to be King Saul in the Old Testament.
Saul like most of us had a bright future in Israel as ordained by the Lord but due to his impatience, he lost it all.
This is no different today. Most people have lost out on the best the Lord had prepared for them due to their impatience and craftiness of their deceitful hearts which led them astray.
If you don’t want to end up like King Saul in the Old Testament who lost his kingdom due to his impatience, you need to remove the impatience which may be currently reigning on the throne of your heart.
14. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. James 5:8.
We must patiently be waiting and anticipate the coming of the Lord no matter how long it may take as it will happen like the thief in the night.
The above scripture specifically admonishes Christians to remain holy and steadfast in the Lord for his coming by keeping their robes white as no impure thing can enter heaven.
With that in mind, stay away from sin and the evils of this corrupt world that most people indulge themselves in if you want to be among the number when the saints go marching in heaven.
Bible Verses About Patience In Hard Times
15. I waited patiently for the LORD, and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Psalms 40:1-2.
David in the above scripture narrates how he patiently waited on the Lord and how he was able to deliver him from all his troubles and afflictions he faced in his lifetime.
If the Lord was able to deliver David from all the afflictions he faced considering how great and perplexing they were if you are familiar with the whole story of David, he can deliver you to as well and hear your cries.
In his lifetime, David faced huge trials in his life at the point of his life being threatened by King Saul who wanted to kill him at one point in his life.
Despite that, the Lord who never fails on his promises was able to hear his cries and distress and delivered him from all his enemies and he can do that for you as well if you wait on him.
16. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. Lamentations 3: 24-25.
The Lord will always be good to those who are willing to wait upon him and to those who diligently seek him wholeheartedly.
If you want the goodness from the Lord to be upon you, you need to learn how to wait on the Lord which is challenging for most people especially those who are hasty in life.
Instead of being hasty like you are being chased by a lion, start practicing patience in silence and wait on the Lord to deliver you from whatever predicament you may be going through.
17. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Revelations 3: 10.
Those who remain patient and steadfast in the Lord without fainting will be delivered from the calamities which will come on this earth in the future.
Therefore, being patient in the Lord pays off big time at the right time which most people fail to see when things they are hoping for or expecting take too long to materialize.
So, if you want the lord to keep you from the hour of temptations, you must be patient and steadfast in the Lord by keeping his word and doing it.
18. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12.
Of all the bible verses about patience n hard times discussed so far, this is the scripture I want you to stick in your bedroom and meditate on daily.
The above scripture is indeed the greatest promise you can cling on wholeheartedly during the harshest of trials you will ever face in this life.
It is the reason why you should count it all joy during the toughest tests of your earthly life because if you endure and overcome, there is a beautiful crown of life waiting for you on the other side of the shore one all is said and done with your earthly life.
19. I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11.
Very true indeed. Life is not for the swift, the highly educated or the smartest people on earth because we all get second chances in life to make it count.
It doesn’t matter your status or educational level, we all receive different opportunities and chances in life as the preacher wonderfully puts it.
This is why you notice that some of the most successful people in life are school dropouts because life isn’t for the most intelligent or highly educated people.
Since life isn’t for the swift or agile, there is no need to be in a hurry. Run your race of life at your own pace and don’t compare yourself to anyone who may be running faster.
20. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 2 Peter 1: 5-7.
In conclusion, this is another scripture on patience I want you to meditate on daily which tells us that patience is a virtue and a priceless one can have.
Patience is one of the most important fruits of the spirit a truly born again Christian must have at all times even when all hell is breaking loose.
If you claim to be a Christian and you are wildly impatient with life which isn’t as serious as we make it, by the way, you need to check up your Christian life again.
